I read in the Beth Moore book I am reading called Believing God...the following. (It is one of
the greatest things I have ever read next to the Bible....It is my prayer for my
children, as well.....)
"I want so many things for my children. I shamelessly ask God to bless them and
show them favor. I actively ask Him to grant them good health; lots of
joy;long-lasting romance with their life mates; laughter; healthy, happy
children; and lots of good friends. I also have no problem asking God if He
might purpose them to live in fairly close proximity so that I can rock my grand
babies often and, when they're older, take them to the park, and when they're
even older, shoot a few baskets with them.
As much as I hope God grants my children each of those things, they represent my
B list. You can bet I have an A list. I want my children to love God. I tell
them often that a passionate love for God and a constant awareness of His grace
is their heritage and that neither mediocrity nor legalism has a place in our
family line. I want my children to love God's Word and discover the life,
healing, and power within it. I want my children to love people and treat them
with compassion and kindness. But more than anything on earth--tears fill my
eyes as I write these words--I want glory to come to God through my children. I
want a thousand things for them and ask without hesitation, but I want nothing
more than God to be glorified. Life is just a breath. All that will matter
forever and ever in our heavenly state is the glory that came to God through our
lives."
